The Lord, His Agape Love Alive in You
Love, God’s AGAPE love is the Greco-Biblical term referring to God’s highest form of graciousness that seeks the supreme best for his children. God’s love came to us because “God is love”(I John 4:8); and “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Here’s the blessing: when the repentant sinner is born-again of the Spirit of God, possessing eternal life, he is indwelt with the Spirit and can be empowered with the fruit of the Spirit. Paul tells us that “The fruit of Spirit is love …” (Galatians 5:22), and we as believers can now live in the fullness of the life of the Spirit - in love. Dwight L. Moody preached it: “There is a supernatural power awaiting in the heart of every born-again believer, and that power is God’s love, authored by, generated by, and dispensed by the Holy Spirit.” Moody is talking about life in the Spirit of love, God’s agape love. Here’s the next blessing and it deals with that very LIFE in God as the LOVE of God is alive in us. The Apostle John writes telling us that “we might live through him” (I John 4:9), all in context of who God is: “God is love” I John 4:8). Yes, living in his love is the life God intended for you, empowered by the Holy Spirit filling us with his fruit of love.
The only way to live the Christian life is to live in the abiding presence of the Spirit of our Lord. Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5). The fruit of love comes from the vine of LIFE; namely, the life of our Lord. Upon the Lord’s upcoming departure to return to his Father, he gave his disciples the good news that he would be coming back in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. He said, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you … because I live, ye shall live also” (John 14:18-19). He then explains that their life would be empowered by the Holy Spirit, manifesting his love: “He that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself (who he is, the fullness of HIS LIFE). He manifests himself as who he is: “GOD IS LOVE” and the life-giving Spirit of God gives a life of love lived, being the highest, supremist, and best that God has - EVER. That’s the spiritual teaching regarding the Lord’s words. “Because I live, ye shall live also” (John 14:19), all in the context of the Lord manifesting himself with his love to those living in obedience to him (v. 21). So, may it be said from the admonition of Scripture: The only way to live the Christian life is to abide in the life of God, filled with submission to his word; then, loving him with the love that he bestows on us. Oh, partake of the life of love, living in the Spirit of our Lord; his agape love was intended to be lived IN YOU.
