Anointed for Victory This Year?

Posted by Pastor Dave Johnson on January 1, 2022

A new year is positioned ahead of us, but are we in a position of victory to “take it on?” The year ahead with its uncharted territory is unknown, uncertain, unlived and can surely strike those disconcerted chords in an apprehensive heart. So true, if it were not for “the anointing which ye have received of him that abideth in you … the same anointing which teacheth you all things” (1 John 2:27). Christ, the Anointed One, is the Teacher in the way of victory for the coming year for the serious believer. So, “Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57). Here’s the good news: “For whatsover is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). The world with its dying influence targets our faith, but the Lord in his life victorious SAYS “LIVE IN ME!” Life in HIM, namely: “Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20) as a Christian is absolutely essential in all matters SPIRITUAL, without which one’s “Christianity” is reduced to just a dutiful, dead religion. So, exactly what really defines that life SPIRITUAL, which in turn will define one’s victory given by the Anointed One? The answer: Faith is the victory, which is an active, alive faith IN HIM with HIM IN YOU - ALIVE!

New life in him is essential to be victorious IN HIM, all by grace. “Now, the life that grace confers upon the believer at the moment of conversion is none other than the life of Christ” (Charles H. Spurgeon). That life given at conversion is the miracle of the new birth of the Spirit, which in turn HE grants additional grace for us to perceive that the relationship with God and HE WITH US is a victorious one. Spurgeon defines it as “firm and determined grasp” - God’s grasp on us being a victorious hold through faith alive - in HIS SPIRIT. We are talking about a surrendered, Spirit-filled, faith-walk, alive in him, with the Lord doing the empowering: “Who are kept by the power of God THROUGH FAITH unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time” (2 Peter 1:5). Victorious faith is found in our Lord Jesus, as the Word tells us so: “Now unto him that is of power to stablish you” (Romans 16:25). Jude tells us, “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy. To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power” (24, 25). The believer moves forward with the Spirit’s power at work within us, not by what the Christian applies or gains in or of himself by his own strength; rather, victory is all about the Anointed One, Christ in one: “To be found in him … and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ” (Philippians 3:8, 9). Anointed for a victorious Christian walk this year? You can be, as being the victorious believer empowered by the Anointed one and being the one who “lives by his dying and becomes full (of HIS power, HIS victory) by being emptied” (Spurgeon). So, do you desire victory? Here’s a verse for the Lord to plant within your heart: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live, yet not I but Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20).
