The Life Worth Living
Searching for a life worth living? Do you desire your life to be as God intended it for you? Jesus taught us something very important concerning Life in Him, and what he said brings fulfillment and purpose for mankind. Here it is: “The words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are life” (John 6:63). Found in that same verse is the very source of life, and it is not found in the natural or human realm, for “It is the Spirit that quickeneth (makes one alive in HIS LIFE), the flesh (of man’s nature) profiteth nothing” (v. 63). The life that the Lord intended is found in him: “He that findeth his life shall lose it, and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it” (Matthew 10:39). Jesus gave us other words of life, and that life is not found in man, but God-given to the “new man, which after God is created” (Ephesians 4:24). It’s all about death to the old sinful way with “repentance unto life” (Acts 11:18) as illustrated in the life-giving words of our Lord. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone, but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit” - namely a fruitful life, NEW LIFE in HIM (John 12:24).
That new life worth living begins with the LIFE-GIVING WORD: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by Word of God which LIVETH and abideth forever” (I Peter 1:23). Question: Are you born-again to new life in HIM? Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again (born from above), he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). He goes on to tell us: “That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). In the very next verse, the Lord tells us: “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3:7). Only by the Spirit of God, can a man possess new life, being forgiven, by placing a heart-felt, repentant belief in the Savior. Words of life for the soul are inclusive of the Lord’s words, recognizing our sinful nature, and turning from sin to Him for salvation: “I tell you, Nay, but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Words so important that Jesus repeated them twice in Luke’s context (chapter 13:3, 5). You see, “God … granted repentance unto life” (Acts 11:18). Unto life? Yes, indeed, Jesus gave us those words of life for a new life in him worth living: “I came that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Here’s a prayer for a new beginning with His Spirit’s life in you, being born-again: “Dear Lord, I am a sinner, and by your grace I repent of my sin, and ask you to forgive me and save my soul, Amen.” Having prayed with a sincere heart, now be IN the Word, for HIS words are spirit and life, giving you a life worth living.
