God's Song. Your Song

Posted by Pastor Dave Johnson on March 12, 2022

Any song in that heart of yours today? How about a melody coupled with the music in the soul that the Lord has authored and you enjoy singing, unto HIM, lauding HIM? Oh, when the Spirit of the Lord gives you HIS song, you can sing it as YOUR SONG, being “The Song of the Soul Set Free” (Oswald J. Smith). “‘Tis the song of the soul set free, and its melody is ringing. ‘Tis the song of the soul set free; joy and peace to me it’s bringing. ‘Tis the song of the soul set free, and my heart is ever singing, Hallelujah! Hallelujah! The song of the soul set free.” It’s a new song of the redeemed, when the Lord “sets you free” from the bondage of sin (John 8:32). The Psalmist David tells us so, when he “waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. And he put a NEW SONG in my mouth, even praise unto our God, many shall see it and fear, and shall trust in the LORD” (Psalm 40:2-4). And it is a HAPPY AND JOYFUL song, as David added the words telling us so: “Blessed (happy) is that man that maketh the LORD his trust” (v. 4, coming to the Lord for his soul being set free from pit of sin, calling on the Lord for salvation with repentant belief). Only to you, becoming a born-again believer (John 3:3) does God’s song become YOUR SONG.

Throughout Scripture the theme of redemption couples itself with the song of the heart’s release from the bondage of sin. No more being stuck in the miry clay of sin’s pit, but the believer is now placed on HIS ROCK of rejoicing (Psalm 40:2-4). No more restlessness targeting the soul after “the arrow that flieth by day” (Psalm 91:5), for “my Maker, (it is He) who giveth songs in the night” (Job 35:10).

No more weaknesses in your soul claiming their victory, when the redeemed know better, because “the LORD Jehovah is my strength and my song” (Isaiah 12:2). No more hesitancy to praise the Lord, dictated by my stubbornness and pride: “I WILL praise the name of God with a song, and will MAGNIFY him … (Psalm 69:30). Why? That song is all about God’s song becoming your song. He wrote it; he placed it in your heart; HIS SPIRIT sings it within, for you to sing it along with HIM. How? Because “He put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God” (Psalm 40:3). You had nothing to do with its authorship, but you have everything to do with opportune time in singing it, all the way to glory: “And they sung a new song, saying thou at worthy, for thou wast slain” (Revelation 5:9). Tired of your “old song?” Need HIS “new song?” It’s already recorded in heaven’s glorious studio, ready to be played in the heart of the one calling on him for salvation. Then, it comes to you when the Lord Jesus Christ, who was slain for all, gives his Spirit to the repentant believer. Oh, there’s a new song to be sung in your heart. The song? ‘Tis the song of the soul set free.
