The Lord's Triumphant Entry
Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled on the day when Jesus entered into Jerusalem, riding on a beast of burden: “Rejoice, greatly O daughter of Zion, shout O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold thy King cometh unto thee, he is just, and having salvation, lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt, the foal of an ass” (Zechariah 9:9). Jesus came on that day defined as the TRIUMPHANT ENTRY to present his public offer as being Israel’s Messianic King. According to Scripture, the road before their coming king was carpeted with “their garments in the way (and) others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in his way” (Matthew 21:8). “And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest” (v. 9). The Hosanna chant meaning “O Save Now” was one of which “all the city was moved, saying, who is this?” (v. 10). He was the One promised in Old Testament Scripture to be their King, offering redemption as entrance into his spiritual kingdom. However, in their prospect of this One, who was to be their King, they misinterpreted Scripture: to them he was to be their DELIVERER from the tyranny of Rome. Yes, the offer of his kingship was given, but they were blinded by their sin as to the real prophetic message of HIS SPIRITUAL KINGSHIP, as their MESSIAH. They missed HIS real triumphant entry; their hearts were closed to the real message of Jesus becoming their DELIVERER from tyranny of sin and its power.
Oh, may “Hosanna” be your welcoming and joyful chant as Jesus desires to make his triumphant entry into your heart as the One who “saves now.” His spiritual kingdom has no other entrance than this: “Except a man born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Yes, the “Hosanna” of old will never be old, because when the repentant heart cries out “oh save now” that life becomes NEW: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Corinthian context gives us the reason for and the power of that newness: “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ” (5:18). The spiritual “hosanna” transcends to every repentant heart calling on him for salvation (Romans 10:13). Oh, don’t miss the spiritual offer of his kingdom as those blinded on that paved religious road of old. You see, these same people changed their tune in their welcoming chant from “hosanna” to the rejecting cry of “crucify him” (Luke 23:20, 21) when their expectations of the person of Christ were not met. Oh, see HIM as HE IS, your Savior (Deliverer) from sin, granting your entrance into HIS spiritual kingdom, becoming “born again” (John 3:3). May today be the day of HIS TRIUMPHANT ENTRY.
