The Seeking Business of Your Soul
There is a most important truth found in Scripture regarding the Christian’s growing relationship with the Lord. The Prophet Azariah proclaimed it to Asa, king of Judah when “The Spirit of the God came upon” him, and this is what he preached: “If ye seek him (the LORD), he will be found of you” (2 Chronicles 15:2). The blessing was, is and ever shall be in the discovery of a most precious FINDING. Just as the Lord first finds us as a lost sheep going astray, and when found, the Shepherd “calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost” (Luke 15:6). Oh, dear believer, HIS finding doesn’t stop at your salvation; you see, the Lord doesn’t want us to be a “lost” believer, living without a powerful and purposeful relationship with HIM. So, let’s address that added blessing of the Lord being “found of you.” The one now found by HIS Savior can then find a most purposeful place that the Lord has for him by HIS SPIRIT. The Christian life lived in its fullness can be summed up in “The Lord is Found in ME.” The believer was first joined up with the Lord in HIS finding him once lost, dead in sin; then HE finds you, changing you to become ALIVE IN HIM: found in you and you found in HIM. That wonderful life-giving FIND is so mutual regarding you and the Lord, and is all about “the Spirit of God” coming upon (v. 2) those meeting up with the challenge given: “If ye seek HIM, he will be found of you” (v. 2).
Dear Christian, just as the Spirit of the Lord desires to come upon you, DESIRE HIM to be upon you and in you (Leader, Teacher, Illuminator, Director, Pathfinder, Victor, and Encourager - all with HIS SEEKIING POWER). As HE seeks you with HIS Spirit’s power, and person, seek him with the same power for that PERSON to be found of you. Here’s some help for us all: Watchman Nee, the Chinese theologian gives us some powerful insight into the “how” of the Lord being “found of you.” In his book entitled “Secrets to Spiritual Power” he tells us, “The life that wins is not attained, but rather obtained. Possess that which is yours in Christ, seeking, being IN HIS LIFE” (IN HIM). So, it’s not necessary applying principles of Scripture, short-circuited by the limited power of our will, but submitting to HIS LIFE FOUND IN YOU - POWERFUL. Azariah goes on to say “be strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak. And when Asa heard these words … he took courage. And they saw that the LORD his God was with him” (vs 7, 9). That “FIND” is a theme prevalent in Scripture: “Know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind … seek him, he will be found of thee” (1 Chronicles 28:9). Want the greatest find ever? Then, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6). When you do, it’s a life obtained for He is with you in the SEEKING BUSINESS of your soul.
