Are You Rapture Ready?

Posted by Pastor Dave Johnson on July 23, 2022

The Bible presents to the believer a most promising revelation: Jesus is coming again. “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so, shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). That climax of all human history is defined as the RAPTURE (from Latin “Rapto” taken from the word phrase “caught up”), and HE IS COMING AGAIN with power and great glory. The eternal purpose of God in gathering his people unto himself comes with promise by the certainty of His Word. Just as “the Word (Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), He is coming again. His glorious presence shall soon break forth into the history of mankind once again, for “this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner …” (Acts 1:11). May we all be ready for his coming.

Oh, be ready for the day, and it will be a glorious day for the redeemed. Yes, He will come as sure as the Word came with his promise; no longer as the suffering servant with the mission of redemption, but as the Champion of full redemption, final, secure, and victorious. Now, how about our mission, personal: as we take a close Scriptural look at the promise of his coming FOR US, let us take a close Spirit-filled look at the readiness for that promise fulfilled, in our coming TO HIM, being “caught up!” Oh, be “looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Here’s how: “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure (I John 3:2). Oh, be ready to meet him with that life lived for him, for we will be there in the day of rapture “to meet the Lord in the air.” It’s so very true, he is coming soon; perhaps not too distant in time. Oh, be ready for the shout, the voice of the archangel and the trump of God. How soon? It could be today, “in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye” (1 Corinthians 15:52). That same context gives us some glorious news: “We shall not all sleep (die), but we all shall be changed” (v. 51). The Apostle also tells us “that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God” (v. 50). So, for the unbeliever. be ready for the trumpet call. “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the Gospel” (Mark 1:15). Then, for the believer, be ready as well: “Lift up your heads, Pilgrim aweary, see days approach now crimson the sky. Night shadows flee and your Beloved awaiting with longing at last draweth nigh. He is coming again” (Mabel Johnson Camp). ARE YOU RAPTURE READY?
