Your Song in God’s Vineyard

Posted by Pastor Dave Johnson on September 10, 2022

“Got a song to sing?” More specifically, does your heart have a song that God gave you, and you can’t help but sing it the way God sings it within you? Nothing man-made up here; it’s something that the Lord orchestrated with heaven’s intended joy. “Sing, O heavens; and be joyfull, O earth; and break forth into singing” (Isaiah 49:13). It’s a joyful song: it’s all spiritual, it’s all of God, and it’s all made possible and powerful by HIS SPIRIT. HE is the same Spirit that was introduced to the born-again believer’s life at salvation (born of the Spirit - John 3:3). With the Spirit dwelling within, one’s salvation is a singing experience; “The fruit of the Spirit is JOY” (Galatians 5:22). “Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall … come with singing” (Isaiah 51:11). We see in that verse a simple Bible identifier: No redemption, NO SONG! But, His HOLY SPIRIT gives us HIS song to those born-again of His Spirit. His song was written on redemptive hearts to sing, and God tells us to sing it: “In that day sing ye unto her a vineyard of red wine” (Isaiah 27:2). That vineyard is the people of God possessing a very precious divine fruit of which to be joyful and EXPRESSED. That “red wine” speaking of JOY, is so mentioned as “a pure vintage with a glow of distinct color” (James Augustus Strong). Only the Lord can make the believer GLOW and that distinctiveness is only made possible by the Gardener himself. How? Why? By Who? Isaiah explains: “I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment, lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day” (v. 3). So, got a song to sing? You do if you are in the GLOW, having been planted in the Lord’s vineyard; then kept by Him, and watered by him continually.

“In that day sing unto her a vineyard of red wine” (Isaiah 27:2). Notice that the Lord says SING and WE WILL; which means that there is no silent chant of one’s own choosing. The SONG is the LORD’S, and the true believer can’t hold it back. If God planted the vineyard (speaking of salvation), He implants the wine of joy in spiritual song. “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation” (Isaiah 12:3). When the vine is planted of Him and is watered by Him, the fruit of the vine is also of HIM: it has HIS GLOW, and radiates HIS COLOR. That song related to the glowing red wine grown of Him is not restricted to a few in that vineyard; it’s a song to be sung and enjoyed by all. Charles Hadden Spurgeon tells us that the song sung is not only directed but is also expected by the One who keeps and waters the vineyard. Then, “His care is extended to every little branch and every spreading leaf, to every clinging vine.” If you are a born-again believer, and have been planted in HIS VINEYARD, then God says “sing unto her.” When the Gardener waters you and grows you, He glows with you and in you with HIS radiant joy that cannot be hidden. Oh, bring that song to be sung in His fellowship of believers; and make it HIS SONG, as HE SINGS: “The LORD thy God is in the midst of thee … He will joy over thee with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17). So, make it also your song in the vineyard. “My soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation” (Psalm 35:9).
